Installing Win7 on my Dell - TODAYS THE DAY
Well, I got my new hard drive yesterday for the installation of Win7, thus preserving my Win Xp system intact on the hard drive I am taking out to make room for the new one. I have new memory that will be here to day. I have 3gb now, and will be putting in 4gb to bring the computer up to max. New video card, because the old one failed the Windows 7 compatibility program from Microsoft. I am going to wait for the memory to get here first.
My biggest fear is, re-installing programs with a license already in use. Good example is my anti-virus, Trend Micro, and Malwarebytes.
Wish me luck.

Good luck, Richard. When you finish, could you pop over here to Bali and downgrade my computer from Windows 8 to Windows 7? I liked 7. I hate 8. And it is not compatible with my IsatPhone (stupid co. has yet to come up with drivers for Windows
and I need it for weather forecasts in the Indian Ocean....

The install went on with no problems, except as Jack said, the on board audio was not compatible. I picked up a sound card today, but I am way too tired to work on that computer.

Success.
Have everything working, except the headphone and microphone jack on the front panel (after installing a sound card). Evidently, good old Dell puts the wires to those into a large connector to the motherboard with all the other front panel stuff. No wire with a small connector that plugs into a sound card. Not a big deal as I rarely listen to stuff on headphones with this computer. Now to start the process of copying what I want off the old hard drive to the new one.

Yup. Dell does that kind of crap. I know I will never waste my money on another Dell as long as I live.
