David Phillips on "Dark As A Dungeon"

Post by Chris Templeton »

This is an excellent version of "Dark as a Dungeon" by Spirng House. This singer is Jane Selkye and David Phillips plays some outstanding pedal steel. http://picosong.com/PcuS/
Excel 3/4 Pedal With An 8 String Hawaiian Neck, Sierra Tapper (10 string with a raised fretboard to fret with fingers), Single neck Fessenden 3/5

Hi David. :)
I sat in on David's rig a few years back in SF at a local jam hosted by Joe Goldmark's wife.
Luckily we both use a similar string order on the top end of our Universals.
I just listended to David's solo starting around 3min 50sec. Nice!
:)
What gear are you using these days?
Do you lower both strings 5 and 6 a whole tone?... or just 6?

Hi Pete, Thank you for the kind words!
That was June 2003, I still remember the day. It was great to meet you hear you play and you do that so well!
That club, The 12 Galaxies closed in 2008.
As to your questions, I play an Excel or Williams universal through one of the following,
Peavey Delta Blues, Classic 30, '71 Fender Vibrosonic Reverb or '60 brown Vibrasonic.
Yes, you heard me lower on both strings 5 and 6.
What are you using these days?
