Didn't realize I had this video ...
Found this show we did where I was playing my old '76 Emmons steel instead of my Mullen. This was one of the many times we played on Prime Time Country, but one of only two times, maybe, that I played my Emmons instead of my Mullen on the show. As much as I love my Mullen guitar, I have to admit that I miss that old Emmons ... Junior Knight now has that guitar.

Paul, on the album, Paul Franklin and Dan Dugmore did the cuts. If I'm recalling correctly, Paul Franklin is the one who played on "She Wants To Be Wanted". In the live version, I made an effort to flavor the steel parts like Paul and do the main signature licks, but I didn't want to sound like I was trying to duplicate or copy Paul exactly, so I took some creative license (which Ty was great about allowing us to do) and threw my own flavoring into the mix. By the way, I was going ampless that day ... I had my rack up there with me for the sake of my tuner, but ran direct into the board at flat response with only a small touch of reverb.
Greg, I remember that "presentation" night with fond memories ... because of Ty's reference to us being together for 8 years, this would have been 1998 ... we worked our butts off for Ty over the years, but we were a close knit band, like a family, and enjoyed working together, so we never expected a surprise like that. We were at Buck Owens' Crystal Palace in Bakersfield that night and Buck was there to watch our show ... it was a real treat meeting him, and then Ty doing that little presentation thing ... well, it meant a lot to us for sure!
I got a kick out one of Ty's comments ... not only was I the longest running member, I was the only "original" member in the band - the group was originally formed around a little guy named Jon Dennis Smith in March of 1990. In September that year, Jon Dennis left us and Ty, who'd been selling Mercedes Benz at a Dallas dealership, came on board. Over the next year, all the personnel in the band changed except me. I was the only original member that stayed. Ah, the memories!
