Pull rod locking nuts

I have started noticing the locking nuts on my zums pull rods have started working loose. This is happening on more than one of them. I wonder if anyone has any suggestions to seat these nuts and to not have to worry about them coming loose again. Hi Doug, I don't have a Zum, but if the tuning nuts are like other guitars, they probably are just worn out and need replacing. Or you can call Bruce and he can tell you what you need to do.

Doug,
You might try "loktite blue threadlocker" it holds very well and can be removed if needed.Just put a drop on the locknut at threaded area after you get it set where you want it.I've used it before and it works very well.

OPPS>>I misunderstood,I thought you meant the pedal rods,don't put it on the nylon tuners,only on the metal threads you don't want to move.

No you didnt misunderstand. I meant the locking nuts on the pull rods that go to the floor pedals. I thought of trying locktite but thought I would ask for the wealth of other knowledable individuals on this forum. Anyway the guitar is only a little over a year old. Thanks

Those are "jam" nuts. If you hold the fitting with a wrench if it has flat sides on it or maybe protect it with tape and use pliers to hold it and snug the nut against it then it will not work loose.

I always tighten my lock nuts while holding the pedal all the way down with my other hand.

Thanks guys never thought of doing that way. I am really considering the lock tite also. I used to fly RC airplanes and it was a must with them. Of course I didnt realize till I had lost a muffler off an engine that lock tite is a staple. It is a good product and is not messy at all. Thanks for all your replies.

Doug,
Jim Smith is right. Adjust the pedal height to your preference and then with the rod still attached to the pedal run the nut down until it stops. Then tighten it just a LITTLE more to lock it. You shouldn't need any locktite product, although it won't hurt anything but be darn sure you don't use the red stuff. The nuts don't get locked down real tight at the shop because people like to set them according to their own tastes.
