You must admit, Buddy was a genius player back in the 70's. and 80's-2009ish.

He's playing like the old buddy we knew now. He had cancer, a good while before he was diagnosed. He didn't have the energy to give it his all then. I thought he was just getting "lazy"....but that wasn't it. It was the damn cancer!
He's been playing professionally, non-stop, since the 60's. that's a lot of time behind the Pedal Steel Guitar!

And I don't just listen to Cage! I listen to Buddy Emmons, JD, Rusty Young, Paul Franklin. The list is very long!

Comments welcomed!

wow really cool.. brings me back to happier days..
Buddy was/is a hard core palm blocker.. That right hand was a bouncin' like hell.. Lots of movement.
I dunno, it might even be considered "improper technique" by modern standards, but it really made his very unique sound POP.. Very staccato, time, counterpoint etc... He is an original.. Most of us love his playing, some hate it, I know that because I personally have heard a lot of negatives over the years...
He MADE the New Riders sound for a long time.. Love Buddy Cage's playing myself,,, He was my very first influence.
After I started being able to cop his licks, I went searching for the guys HE copied from, and thats when I started becoming a steel player.. Glad he's still rockin' the house, and I hope he continues for many good years to come... bob
I'm over the hill and hittin'rocks on the way down!

no gear list for me.. you don't have the time......

Thanks for your comments Bob.
Yes, those were fun days, back then. I try not to over analyse players. To me, what he's doing...just sounds "cool." I love those "bubbly" licks! He's an accurate player, & plays a lot of tasty stuff. He's probably the best at rock Pedal Steel Guitar, or one of the very best.
Cage would be the 1st to say..."it's the Nashville Pros, who matter the most."
