Mike,
I use http://www.keepvid.com/.
Pull up the video you want, and copy the URL.
Then bring up KeepVid and paste the URL in it's box.
You may need to answer a question or two as yes.
It will give you options for the downloads as to size, quality, and type.
Select the one you want.

I use RealPlayer. It's free and comes with a downloader program. It only works in certain browsers, like Inferiornet Exploder (Internet Explorer), Firefox (but after a while, Firefox crashes), supposed to work in Chrome but doesn't on my computer. If you use one of the browsers that it works with, when you play the video, a "download this video" button shows up for a little bit. Click the button and the download starts. If you want the video files to go into a different folder than the default, go into preferences and choose the folder you want. No need to copy a URL and paste into another program.

Yeah. It's supposed to work with Chrome, and did for a little while after I installed it. But it stopped working after a while. So I use IE for downloading. That's all I use it for. It's so much easier than the programs where you have to do the copy/paste thing with the URL.

Firefox users can install an add-on called Flash and Video Download that runs in the background to download videos and flash content whenever one or more of those are on the web page.Richard Sinkler wrote:It's so much easier than the programs where you have to do the copy/paste thing with the URL.
Its setup options include an icon which appears in the Firefox navigation bar

and clicking on it drops down a list of all the videos, their formats, and the resolution of each one on the page. Selecting one or more starts the download. No copying URLs, etc, and no other app to run.

Thanks Dave. I have that arrow on my version of Firefox, but never knew what it was for. I typically don't like Firefox because, for me, it is too slow. I can click on the icon to start it up, go on vacation, and it will still be trying to start when I return.

Sounds like some kind of system issue. Could be lots of things, OS, processor speed, hard drive free space, RAM limits,...even the version of Firefox you're running..yada yada.
I like Firefox because it can run AdBlock, which is a Godsend getting rid of all sorts of unwanted junk that clutters up web pages, and the beauty is, you get to select what you see.....but on my system, Firefox and the add-ons, including this one, run nicely. I do tend to make sure my system is toward the high-spec end, however.
Oh, well...just trying to help.

Been slow on every computer I have owned. This computer is a Dell with 3GB RAM, 2 750GB hard drives, neither of which is 1/2 full. Don't know what the processor speed is offhand, but it's fairly quick on everything else. Windows Xp. I have a laptop with 4GB RAM, a 500GB hard drive that's not 1/2 full, windows 7. It runs the same there too.Sounds like some kind of system issue. Since I design websites, I keep the most current versions of Chrome (my preferred browser), IE, Opera, Safari and Firefox for testing purposes.
Gonna have to try that download arrow though. Real Player Downloader works great, but crashes on occasion. Real Player media player really sucks.

Firefox has an option, checked by default, to check for updates to both the browser and its add-ons and plug-ins before the browser is displayed on the monitor. It is located under Tools > Options > Advanced > Update.
Disabling this checking for updates before the browser loads is considered a security benefit by Mozilla and the checkboxes make that perfectly clear.

My Firefox says "Automatically install updates (recommended: Improved Security). I have the box checked. I will try it unchecked.
It actually loads quicker with the automatic updates selected.

Hmmm. That's a head-scratcher - if FF is doggy on both machines, that pretty much rules out specs. I don't know what could be slowing it down - I've just never experienced that. One other thing it might be could be an add-on that's problematic. You could try disabling them all and see if FF runs any better. If it does, re-enable them one at a time to find the culprit. I'm not optimistic about that, though, unless you have the same identical add-ons on both your computers.Richard Sinkler wrote:I have a laptop with 4GB RAM, a 500GB hard drive that's not 1/2 full, windows 7. My PC is running Win7 64-bit on an SSD disk, with an Intel Core i7 CPU (4 separate processors) at 3.2GHz, and 8GB system RAM, Nvidia GTX580 video card, so, pretty quick, but I'm still surprised FF isn't running better for you. It's always run fine for me over the years and on much slower hardware. If you want to see what CPU you have, right-click "My Computer" or whatever it is in XP, and open "Properties", I think. Can't remember XP that much anymore.
I just looked, and I have FF set to "Automatically Install Updates....", not to "Check, but Let Me Choose.....", and a few minutes ago, it definitely asked me if I wanted to install Beta v27.0. Not sure why it didn't "automatically install", but I'd rather be asked anyway.
I agree. It's been many years since I used it, and I don't remember what I didn't like, but "sucks" probably covers it.Gonna have to try that download arrow though. Real Player Downloader works great, but crashes on occasion. Real Player media player really sucks.
Be sure to check that you have the current version of the video downloader add-on. Mine's called "Flash and Video Downloader 1.46".

FF takes about 11 seconds to load. I know that is not much time in the scheme of things, but Chrome is pretty quick. Even IE, Safari and Opera come up a little faster. Since I don't use it as my main browser, I probably shouldn't care.
EDIT: Specs

Laptop Intel Pentium, CPU B960 @ 2.2Ghz, 4GB RAM

Wow. No, if you don't use it much, it's not a big deal, but there's something going on that shouldn't be, IMO - a bottleneck somewhere. I just timed mine, and it loaded in 3 secs flat.Richard Sinkler wrote:FF takes about 11 seconds to load. I know that is not much time in the scheme of things, but Chrome is pretty quick. It's just curious that you've got the same thing happening on both machines. Odd.
