Roger, you nailed it!
I received a very gracious PM from a person who would know; he said it appeared to be Billy's first Fender 1000, one of the very early models. Billy later acquired a later model 1000, and then a Fender 2000, which he still plays.
I could sit and watch those old Town Hall Party and Ranch Party clips on You Tube all day long. Fascinating stuff with many famous musicians, classic instruments, and, most of all, great music.
