Kayton Roberts

Post by Micky Byrne »

I found this link recently. What a great player Kayton is. The late Hank Snow was priviledged to have such a monster player in his band...and NO PEDALS!! Watch his attack on the strings :D

Always one of my favorites - notice how proficient he is with the finger pulls. :D

Hi Terry...I wasn't sure but noticed the Maple leaf on his front Apron...so assumed it...thanks for varifying it. I have friends who did meet him in the U.K. when he was with Hank Snow, and they told me how friendly he was and he showed them how he pulled the strings behind the bar. His personna comes out in that video clip...especially when he stands up at the end :D

I met Kayton in 1969, in Dresser,Wisconsin, when he had recently joined Hank Snow. Chubby Wise had recommended Kayton for the Steel Guitar position with Hank. Kayton told me he was born & raised in the state of Florida. :)

I went to Nashville to get some more signatures on my white steel guitar. I visited Bobbe Seymore and he gave me Kayton's address (he doesn't have a land line) I went and knocked on his door and he invited me in. We played Hawaiian music and some of his Hank Snow music for over 3 hours. What a hoot. I never thought I'd see the day when I jammed with Kayton Roberts, one of my dad's heroes.
