Firewire connections to a presonus 24.4.2
I am trying find how I can connect my new HP laptop to a Presonus 24.4.2 board through a firewire. I've heard both that you can do it and that you can't. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The HP has 2.0 and 3.0 usb ports.

Most (all that I've seen) Firewire audio interface units need a port with a T.I. Firewire chipset. They will not work at all or just intermittently without the T.I. Firewire interface.
However, I've seen many reports on recording forums of devices not working in Laptops, even with a T.I. Firewire interface unit.
Most of the audio interface units use a "DICE" or "DICE II" Firewire interface chip in the unit and they only work (or work properly) with a T.I. interface in the PC.

This statement from Howard's link backs up my comment at T.I. Chipset.
When researching just make sure to check tech specs on any laptop to see if it has one of these slots (preferably expresscard), and check firewire cards for compatible chipset (preferably a TI chipset from the list). Again, chipset is key, so be sure to double check as manufacturers sometimes change the chipsets they use.
