MIDI instruments don't play in BIAB w/ Windows 8

Hi folks,

I'm trying to set up BIAB on my friends laptop (with Windows 8 ), and for some reason the MIDI instruments don't play, BUT the real instruments do. I know that something has to be routed so the MIDI instruments are heard, so I set up the options the same as my other PC, using the coyote settings, but still nothing.

I ran 2011.5 on his PC and everything worked. I'm starting to wonder if its a clash between Windows 8 and BIAB 2013. The BIAB forums are not very user friendly. Anyone got any ideas?
