Sierra 'Laptop' - Christo Redentor

Post by b0b »

Here's a live recording from an outdoor winery gig last weekend. We were a duo - Oscar Calderon plays guitar and drum machine, and I play the Sierra standing up (it's on a keyboard stand, no pedals). The tuning is G B D F# A B D F#.

I used a Goodrich pot volume pedal, Line6 Pod XT, Gallien-Krueger MB200 amp and a 12" EVM speaker. I'm very happy with the tone on this song, the first tune of the gig.

I also pound on my Roland HandSonic drum a bit at the end of the tune. :|

I liked this a lot. You've got a good tone, and the tune is very relaxing. Keep it up. :D 8)

Thnx for sharing bOb. Great song title. Had never heard the song. It would be tough for me remember on the steel.
I acquired a 12 string Sierra "Lap Steel" & want to replace the strings. Do you have a string gauge chart for the Sierra? I want to order a set by recommended string gauges for the Sierra according to the tuning I plan to use. That would be my extended Leavitt tuning.
Sometime I plan to be passing through your area & hope to connect with you & would like to give you advance notice.
Your Southern Oregon hobby steeler friend,
Don

I've never seen a 12 string Sierra lap steel, Don. Here's my trusty old string gauge chart:

Thnx b0b. Appreciated. Can I order strings from you?
FYI, I understand only two 12 stringers were made. I have one & the other is owned by an East Coast Steeler. Mine is a beauty & I imagine the other is also.
