Franklin DVD

Post by Niels Andrews »

Is anybody else having problems playing the Paul Franklin DVD on a Apple Computer. I am running OSX version 10.8.4 on a Intel i5 with 12 GB of RAM and I am having a heck of a time with it starting and stopping and some times it says skipping damaged section of disc.
I have tried several different apps, my next thing will be to try it on a PC, which is a definite step back. Anybody else have a problem?

Niels,
Sounds like your disc may be suspect or your combo drive
may not be working well. This is probably not software related. These are not uncommon problems.....

I had a problem too. Try the Mac DVD ap. if no good, try QuickTime player. There is also VLC for Mac. I just shoved the disk in a couple of times and finally got the default player to work. Never could get the video to fast forward or play previous segments. I would suspect the Master was not checked for Mac compatibility.
I just gleened what I could and made notes as it played. Kinda sad about it, after waiting 2 months to get it, and that only after mailing a " what's going on letter" because I couldn't
find an email address on the site.

I feel your frustration Gary. I can understand Franklin not having an email, we would be bothering him all the time. I tried a myriad of DVD programs and none work and I tried a Windows 8 machine and it would not play at all, so tomorrow I will try an XP machine. The frustrating part is where mine says it is damaged is at the beginning of phrasing solo's and I really want to hear what he has to say.

Franklin DVD

Hi, I've had the same problem and I'm in Windows. The problem is not the OS, it's the disc itself. Here's what I did, I made a copy of the DVD at a very slow speed (my computer could read the disc but not my DVD reader plugged to my TV set). This way, I've been able to have a decent copy of the DVD and I can view it wherever I want to. I've had this problem numerous times with material bought off ebay and from companies doing copies with non professional material and most of the times, it did it.

Best of luck,

ayp

PS: BTW, the part you want to view is one of the most interesting on the DVD, soloing.

Alain,
Thank You for the solution you were 100% on the money, it was the DVD. It doesn't appear that they are professionally made. Unfortunate in that the subject material is great, but not when you don't see it. The pivot section is twice as long as I thought it was.

I see the same thing in audio CD's. If they are not burned at a slow speed, they will not play in all audio CD players - they will skip, not play at all, etc.

I do a lot of audio CD burning, I have a bank of 5 CD burners, and I use high quality Taiyo Yuden discs and my burn speed "standard" is 8X. At 8X they will work in practically any audio CD player.

I also only use ink jet printable discs and print using an Epson printer. NO paper labels which can also be an issue.

This explains a lot to me. I have been cussing my computer when all along it is simply the way it was recorded. No one can say that at every turn with the PSG, there is not a challenge. Thank God for this forum, it has delayed my loss of sanity by at least a year.
