Return to factory settings

Post by Jimmy Gibson »

Is there any way I can return my PC to the factory settings? because I can`t find the installation disc , the pc is driving me nuts because no matter what I try I still can not connect to the internet.
all other programs work fine

Also my other PC is absolutely fine.

It was working fine a few days ago but I don`t really understand all the computer jargon, so I thought I would start by doing a recovery.
I use a wireless system.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Jimmy.

Have you tried right click on wireless Icon to repair connection and renew IP address. They tend to lose connection for some reason. At least that is my case at times. Hope this helps.

In many cases like this you can fix it if you unplug the modem and/or router for 30 seconds and then power it up again.

Hi Cal,i have tried that but as I said my other computer works just fine, I started getting a few problems after I uninstalled some software I downloaded, the problem started after that and with me being a computer dim wit I may have caused the problem by uninstalling something I should not have  so I thought a complete recovery would be the best way to go, but because I have been unable to find the disk that came with the PC I don`t think I can do a recovery.

Thanks Jimmy.

What is the status or error code that is showing in the Device Manager for your Network Adapters? Does it show all working OK or is there an error code for the adapter? You can access device manager by clicking Start then RIGHT click on Computer and then LEFT click on Properties. System Restore can be accessed from the Task List on the upper left of the panel.

If you have a System Restore point that is BEFORE whatever you uninstalled, that MAY get it working again.

System Restore can be accessed by Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools. System restore will not delete any user data or e-mails.

If you can't run System Restore or it does not fix it, try SFC /scannow and see if it finds any bad files or can fix any bad files. You will need to run this in a "cmd" window and as Administrator.

Click Start/Program/Accories. RIGHT click on the Command Prompt listing and then LEFT click Run as Administrator. Enter SFC /scannow in the CMD prompt.

Tried that but it did not cure the fault, I think I may have deleted something I should not have but don`t know what, as I said I`m a computer idiot I know nothing about how they work and don`t understand the jargon. that is why I would like to do a recovery to the original factory settings.

You could try another account on the computer, if you have one. You could also try running a cord from the wireless router to the computer. If either one of these work, you've narrowed down the problem.
