Updated City Lights

Post by Paul King »

Here is a song recorded at the Texas monthly meeting in January. It was recorded in mono but George Ashmore went back and added another side to the video. It sounds much better even though I had a bad case of the nerves. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGywz-VB ... e=youtu.be

Paul, That sounded great. I thought you played very well and you also have a great tone in that Emmons. No reason for you to be nervous. But we all get it at some point in time.

I agree with Ransom - the drums are too loud in the mix, maybe even the bass. It is very evident when the fiddle player does his take.

Thanks guys for the kind words. As far as the drums and bass go, nothing was run through a PA system. Even when they had vocals they sang through an amp. I guess it is hard to get a good mix when nothing has a mic on it.

EQ 2nd Version

Post by George Ashmore »

Hey Paul:
The second version of City Lights was EQed for the "Line Out" of a laptop. If you have a choice of "Headphones" or "Line Out" when using the laptop to run external speakers, use "Line Out". The headphones are too much on external speakers. So I tried to make the sound good for the little speakers that are embedded in a laptop. As you may remember the video was a spur of the moment deal that was to give you some feedback on the use of your pedals, levers and chord choice. The toy camera being used had only one channel for audio and was a great deal of distance from the amplifiers. Actually I was pretty amazed at the results for such a hokey shoot. I still get people asking about you and how wonderful you sound.
Life in Texas was a blast!

I sure appreciate George Ashmore for doing all the videos for me on YouTube. I also appreciate all the kind words from him and others here on the forum and email. I love being part of this steel guitar family.
