The title is "Allegreto for David", or "Ombra del Piloto" - I haven't decided which one to keep. Perhaps both of them. A week ago I had the distinct pleasure of watching Christoph König conduct the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in their performance of Beethoven's Symphony No. 7. The allegretto to this compelling piece of music had been an earworm ever since.
Yesterday I was trying to work on part of a long-term recording project, but I was in too strange a mood to make any progress, so instead of walking around my apartment looking at the walls, I decided to sit down at my steel and play whatever came out. I turned on the recording software, and this was the resut. The beginning and a short section in the middle are as close as someone with my limited abilities could get to the original first phrase. The rest I just made up as I went along, perhaps channeling my inner 19th Century (with the ending I was sort of thinking of John Coltrane's "Naima"). In fact, this tune could more appropriately be called Susan Noodling Around to Beethoven. Still, perhaps it is not totally without merit. I hope you enjoy it for what it is.
