This error could be the result of any of the following problems:
  • Bad recovery disk
  • Bad (recovery) disk drive unit
  • Failing hard drive (bad sectors, electronic problem, mechanical failure)
  • Bad RAM module
  • Motherboard problems (failing ICs, leaking capacitors, dust in heatsinks and fans causing overheating)
  • Failing CMOS battery
  • Bad, corrupted, or infected bootsector on boot hard drive
If you have any sensitive, or personally important files on the hard drive, take the computer to a competent computer repair shop. They may find that your hard drive is faulty, but readable. In this case they may be able to install a new boot drive and install and activate Windows using your existing hologram sticker product key.

After a new hard drive has been installed and the operating system and drivers setup and updated, your old drive can be slaved and important data files copied to the new drive, to a folder you can access from your new user account.
