Sorry to hear of Varn's passing. I knew him from the So.California days. He played mostly in the San Gabriel Vally area with Bobby George, Phil Baugh, and another fellow Musician who's name escapes me.

Fred, if I remember right, the Blue Room (once owned by Eddie Drake and Johnny Paycheck) was in La Puente, which we pronounced "La Pee-you-enty."Fred Jack wrote:I met Vern when they played the Blue Room in Pamona wwaaaay back when. I saw him at an event in Ft Worth in the past year or so.Maybe with Joe Belinski. RIP Vern!

Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg?

I remember Vern from his old SoCal days before he moved to Dallas... He and Bobby G. were the composers of "Long Black Limosine" which is a country classic. I have an old record somewhere of Vern's called "Brand New World" which is sort of a Nightlife type tune. Jim Bob Sedgwick used to sing it back at the old Foothill. RIP Vern.....JH in Va.
Don't matter who's in Austin (or anywhere else) Ralph Mooney is still the king!!!
