Kalamazoo Legend Passes Away

Post by Jim Peter »

Dean Dailey, steel guitarist from the band Four Wheel Drive passed away Monday. Dean and his brother Jack formed the Twang Brothers in the early 70’s and later FWD. They were a fixture in Kalamazoo music scene and I spent many a Saturday night listening to these guys until I couldn’t take it anymore and bought my own steel guitar.

I met Dean and the rest of the Twang Brothers when I was playing with the Billy Spears Band at the festivals on Odee Acres. Great bunch of guys - we had a lot of fun. Twang on Dean.

Oh, wow. I first started playing in Kzoo when the Twangs were the darlings of the country-rock scene. Dean would come over to my house and jam, and show me how he was thinking. A really sweet, sharing guy. I eventually ended up a Twang Brother myself for a bit... and played those Odee Acres shows as well with "Last Call". I must have met you at some point Bob, as I was a big Spears fan. Really, really good times. RIP, Dean.
