BIAB Solist only on middle chorus - he's missing!

I have a song set up where I want to play the melody on the first and third choruses but want to comp with a soloist on the middle chorus. When I generate a solo with these settings:
FIRST: no solo
MIDDLE: Yes-solo
LAST: no solo
I do not get a solo in that middle chorus but if I change the settings to FIRST: Yes solo, then I get the solo all the way though the song.
Any ideas?
