Unchained Melody - My 4 month Song

Post by Pete Nicholls »

Will cross the 4 month mark come September 20th, so thought I would upload a recent song for you to track my progress. I am really trying to improve my finesse now, but still can't resist learning new songs, almost daily! But it is sooo much fun!
I will be playing at the Augusta Steel show at the end of October and don't expect to dazzle anyone with my playing, but hope to inspire some folks that may be on the fence about playing steel guitar. I have played guitar for 50 years, and at age 64 decided to take up steel guitar. It is the best thing I have done musically in many years. Hope you like my version of Unchained Melody - http://soundcloud.com/petenicholls/unchained-melody

Pete, that is very impressive for only 4 months of playing! I've been at it almost a year now, and am not that good. 50 years of guitar might help...but there is still many hours of practice to get you there in such a short period. Keep it up! And post more!

Is this your version? Or from tab or somewhere else? I played 6-string about 40 years ago, and was pretty good at the time at figuring out arrangements to songs, but have not reached that point yet with steel.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks Doug for your kind remarks.

I have never taken the time necessary for interpreting tabs, about like reading music, never found time for that either! I have focused on learning the chords, wherein you find all of the melody notes you need to play a song.

I have never been very creative with music, so have always tended to stay close to the melody. I do hope to learn a few good licks along the way that I can throw in to add color.

Thanks again for listening and your kind comments.
