Comcast Internet Anti Virus Question

Post by George Redmon »

(Hope the title was good enough)

I recently switched from DSL to comcast internet service. Got rid of my home phone, just using my cell now. Does the Norton anti virus download that comcast offers at no extra charge, do the trick? Is it a resource hog? I was thinking i could save the $50 a year McAfee is charging me to, by using comecasts' Norton anti virus?? Appreciate any suggestions from you comcast internet users. Thanks, George

George;
As long as you are running Windows 7, with at least 4 gigs of RAM, and a 2200 Mhz or faster CPU, Norton won't slow or bog you down.

If you are running Windows XP, or have under 4 Gigs of RAM, or a slower CPU, you may notice some slowdowns.

Most modern security programs now offload new malware definitions to their Internet servers, which we call cloud servers (just a marketing term). People with fast Internet service and a decent amount of RAM, and a fast processor shouldn't notice that their anti-malware is even running.

Here's a ferinstance
I have three Windows PCs. Two are desktops and one is a laptop. My laptop is a recycled Dell Latitude, running XP Pro, with a 1000 Mhz CPU clock and just 512 MB of RAM. It is next to useless for anything but web browsing and checking email using MailWasher.

One of my PCs is a self-built AMD 2200Mhz machine running on an MSI motherboard, with 2 Gigs of DDR2 RAM, in dual channel mode. Most anti-virus bogs it down. I have opted to use Trend Micro on it.

My Windows 7 self-built PC has an Intel i3, 3100 Mhz dual core CPU and 4 Gigs of RAM, in a Rosewill motherboard, by Gigabyte.It moves along briskly! I chose to use Trend Micro in it also.

My Inet is through Comcast. I am entitled to a free subscription to Norton, but Trend Micro like I, so with it I stick. My the farce be with you!
