Mac G-5 won't start

Post by robert kramer »

My Mac G-5 Tower OS 10.4 is having problems starting up. When I the on the button it lights up - but then fades off. I just went back an hour later and it fired right up. This has happened a couple times.

Anybody know what's wrong?

It could be the power supply going bad, which is an easy fix. Just get a new one and put it in. Not a hard job, technically, or very expensive. Probably a video on YouTube. Check the power plug on the back of the comp and make sure it's tight, and open up the comp and blow it out and make sure all connections and RAM are tight. You could also run the AHT (Apple Hardware Test) and that might give you some info. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509?view ... cale=en_US

I guess you might have a PowerPC, not an Intel. This link might help. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/26 ... 0&tstart=0

Let me know how it turns out. I've got a G4 that's even older than yours and it's chugging right along. You might also check the on/off button when you get inside the comp to make sure it's not loose. Thanks for stopping by my site.
