Need some help with ION video 2 PC help...............

Post by Ray Anderson »

Trying to convert my VHS tapes to DVD, I am sucessful at the video end of it but have no sound. Could my sound driver be corrupt or outdated? Using Sigma Tel AC97 ( I'm guessing this is the sound card) What do I need to do to resolve this matter? I am reluctant to try to download an upgrade or even to update. I'm using Windows XP IE8. If someone knows how to help me update this driver and can walk me through it, I would be appreciative in a big way.

What adapter are you using? I have a USB connected adapter and I connect both the video and audio from, for example, a VCR player to the adapter. The "video" recording program records both audio and video and I save that as a standard video file type. I can then use my Video recording program to record the video to DVD's.

Its a long and convoluted process. I only did it for two VCR to DVD's and put it away and bought a standalone DVD recorder. I now use that and its much easier (and frees up the PC).

Hey Jack, I'm doing the same way as yourself, but I get no sound on my recording. I ran a free scan from Norton and it stated that my SigmaTel was out dated or corrupted. Is that the driver that gives the recording sound? I'm not sure. There is an upgrade for it, but I don't know the process to install it. Windows shows a free driver manager dowload but I want to ask someone that knows about these matters. Can these manangers be trusted to properly work or will they mess up more than I can fix. Thanks for your help and input. Ray

Ray
I bought a VCR/DVD machine at Best Buy
for 89.00 to convert my old videos, it
couldn't be easier.

Does the sound work OK, other than for the video? If it does "if it ain't broke don't fix it" or in other words there is no need to download any updated driver. But if you need the newer driver, get it either from the PC Vendor or if its a custom built from the motherboard vendor, there's no need for driver detectives or whatever they want to call themselves. Just go to vendor's web site and if there is an updated driver you can download and install it. Non-Vendor sound drivers, in many cases either do not work or do not work correctly.

After you "record" the video to the PC and have saved it to the hard drive, can you play the video and hear sound? If you can, then its the DVD burning program or how you are buring them that is causing the no sound.

But, I'll reiterate (and as Rick says) a standalone DVD recorder is your best and most hassle free way of converting to DVD's.

Hey Guys, Took your advice and tried the DVD recorder and I must say, that is the way to do it. I need to know how to get a full screen from my recording. I set the aspect ratio both ways and still have black strips along the sides. Any suggestions?

I'll venture a guess that you have an HD TV but the output fromt he DVD player is not HD. There are settings on many TV's to get the full video on the screen, if the DVD player does not have any HD options.
