Billy, if the xylophone (or vibes) is playing the melody, then here's how to mute it.

First, notice the top-most bar across the screen that says "Band-in-a-Box and the song name. Beneath that is a WHITE bar that, from left, says "File", "Edit", "Styles", etc. Beneath that white bar is a BLACK bar with little buttons for Combo, Bass, Piano, etc. In that row, RIGHT-click on the MELODY button. A menu will drop down and then you LEFT-click on the word "MUTE". That will silence it.

If you want to erase it completely, then, after right-clicking it, select "Erase Track".

Hope that's what you need to know.

Billy, here's another way to illiminate the melody instrument or any other. Hold down the Alt button then hit the F2 button, on the menu that appears you can uncheck any of the instruments or change them to another if you want to then save your changes.
