Very sorry to hear about Carl's passing. He was a great player that helped several get started on the steel guitar. He traveled to many steel guitar events, and will be missed by many, including me.
Thanks for letting us know David.

Carl was one of the good guys.....he attended many of the SWSGA shows in Phoenix where I got to meet and become acquainted with him. We will miss him. Rest in peace, Carl and condolences to the family.

Carl and I first met in 1971, when I stopped in a little club in the CA desert on my way back from Vegas. He had a damaged hand and needed a smaller bar, so I went out to my car and gave him an old Black Rajah I had in the trunk. At the Texas Jamboree in 1990 he came up to me and handed the bar back to me and recalled the entire story. Our friendship was cemented and from that time on I always looked forward to seeing him and reminiscing about the Black Rajah bar. He will be sorely missed by me.

When I was 12 or 13 years old my dad would take me to Carl's house for jam sessions. Carl always made me, and everyone there, feel like we were the greatests players in the world. Through my friend Barry Thomas, I was fortunite to get to talk to him a while back. I was able let him know that, through these years, I have had the greatest respect for him, not only for his love for steel guitar but also for making a snotty nosed little boy feel like I could someday be great. Even though we didn't stay in touch, as much as I wish we could have, I still have wonderful memories of this great man and will miss him.
