Post by George Brown »

My CD-DVD drive had been working okay for several years, then a couple days ago, it quit...When I checked all components, it was not recognized, nor found...Any Ideas will be appreciated.....Thanks

Desktop or laptop?

I have had this on my laptops and a reboot fixes it... But, there could be any number of issues. Loose connections, wire shorts... etc. Depending on what it is, cracking the case open and checking is not out of the options list.

After a while and lots of use, entropy sets in and even the best optical drive dies.

Just about every one I've ever had has died eventually.

What is the status in the Device Manager (error code). It could be some other problem than just that it died (hardware).

e.g Code 39, Code 10, Code 19, etc.

Thanks guys for All the good Info... I Re-Booted several times, shut it down Completely once, Asked it to check for New Hardware....The last time I re-Booted, I checked, and It had returned, and is working Okay for now.....I think Cal might have hit on a good point. Maybe like Me, it is just getting Old... (HA) Thanks again, and I'll keep all the advice, in case it decides to quit again...

It's not a bad idea to have an external USB optical drive on hand in case you need it. You can get one for under $50.
