I had noticed fewer hits using Google Shopping lately, and wondered why. This probably explains it. I don't blame merchants one bit for not wanting to "spread the wealth around" to Google, although in some cases, it might be a case of false economy. And, the point made in the article is worth considering; if Google extends this "concept" to their other services, IMO, they'll just be devaluing themselves as a search tool.
When I shop online from now on, I'll be including non-Google search engines as well.
