tunning back 1 fret
Thank you all for the kind comments. I hope what I do gives you all some ideas.
I use an Eb 9th tunning. I had a an ol Fender 1000 and tuned back 1 fret to save the thin G# string breakage and got used to it and always kept it thar. Got that idea from Buddy Emmons. It gives me open string chords and licks that are unique. And seems to give me a thicker sound. Stevie Ray Von tunned his guitar back and had his own sound.
Again, thank you all. I hope it helped. Ted

Eb Ninth
I played that for years ,even when i was working with Dottie West.i also could do open strings with different chords in the flat keys on the different frets than the E tuning .had the thin fat tone on upper strings and a better bottom sound 6 thru 10 and less string breakage also.

Eb 9 Tuning
I used the standard e9th gauges except use a 12 instead of .011 on the 3rd string.11 will work but a tad loose for me.BTW i play standard E 9th now and have since about 1997.
