laptop won't open verizon

I got my laptop out to check and update AVG. The OS is XP and gets the signal from my Belkin wireless router. For some strange reason, I can't open Verizon.net and other Verizon sites for checking mail. I tried from Mozilla and IE. It just stays busy. Any reason it won't open here, my desktop does. Cache,cookies?

Flush the DNS information from the DNS Cache, release your IP, then renew it afresh. Google can provide guidance on how to accomplish all this from a Command Prompt.
