Brings back some memories of what it used to be like at St. Louis. Not that there aren't great pickers now but something back then just added a special sparkle seeing seeing some of the guys that were the inovators of steel as we see it now. I was also new to the steel guitar which made it that much more exciting. Never be like that again. Thanks for the link, haven't seen that.

Sam, I don't know. Marcel Parijs started a thread on the convention players that I didn't see until after I started this thread. There might be more info there. This is great to see clips of the convention back in the day.

In one of those videos, Wally Murphy was tearing it up on the D-11 Dekley I built him. That would have been 1979 or 1980.

That convention was 1986. That is the year Shot Jackson was inducted into hall of fame. First year I went to convention. The video of Wally Murphy looks to be older than the others but he was there the year I went but don't remember what he was playing. Scotty has on same suit in both videos I found so think both were 1986. I also remember Hal playing the jazz set with horns. Sara was born in November of 69 which would make her almost 17 at that show.

The year was definitely 1986. It was my second visit to the convention, the first being 1981. Shot Jackson was inducted into the Hall Of Fame and the players on bottom line guitars was fun to watch. Speedy West started all of the fun when he pointed at the ground wanting Buddy Emmons on his elbows. It was a moment I will never forget. I also remember the red jacket Buddy Emmons was wearing. My last visit was in 1991.
