Early modded-Stringmaster on Ozark Jubilee (Doc martin)

Post by Mike Neer »

I found this video of Doc Martin playing his modded Stringmaster with knee levers. Ray Noren, who was on on the Ozark Jubilee prior to Doc, was the first to have knee levers on his guitar; unfortunately, there are no clips of him.

But, anyway, this clip of Doc is cool:

I don't notice any knees, but there
are floor pedals down there . . .

He's moving his knees way over to the side, but it's hard to tell if there are knee levers or he's just working extra hard to step on the pedals. I like how he fans the strings with his three finger picks. Interesting clip.

Wow, what is the song called? Cherry? I'd like to learn it but can't find anything else on it. It sounds pretty do-able on the C6.

I could not see any pedals or knee levers, but assumed by the way he was moving his legs that it was knee levers. I know that Ray Noren had knee levers even before then.

I've noticed players, back in the day, play pedals with their legs
goin' side-to-side, unbridled by knee levers and particularly if
the pedals had 'mushy stops' you would often nearly have to do
this when mashing one pedal to avoid mashing an adjacent pedal.

You can see the pedal rack come in to view at the bottom of the
viewing area at about 2:07.

Can't really tell if he's using knee levers but it looks to me he's using the side of his foot to lower strings when he moves to the right.Notice he rocks back & forth pretty much in the same position which to me looks like he pushes two pedals at the same time but maybe only a half pedal on the left.I remember watching they show many yrs. ago.I think they broadcast the show out of Springfield Mo.I remember the theater used to be on route 65 South near Springfield.
