Marty Dahlgren NW fiddler RIP

Post by Dave Harmonson »

Yesterday my old friend Marty Dahlgren passed away. He'd been in a nursing home for about the last year and know he's resting easy now.
A warm and gentle soul with a great sense of humor and a flair for entertaining. Played with Bonnie Guitar back in the 50's and was in one of the northwest's top country bands in the 50's and 60's, Jack Roberts and the Evergreen Drifters.
Here's a couple of clips of Marty showing his shine.
First one with another NW legend steeler Jimmy Webb.
Second with the Late Big Bill Garner and Butch Corwell on steel.
RIP Marty I miss you already.

Evergreen Drifters

Post by Bill Bassett »

After I learned of the passing of my friend Marty Dahlgren the fiddle player, I got curious about what had been posted on line about The Evergreen Drifters since I last checked a couple of years ago. I turned up this jem. Someone is offering this painting on an auction site (not ebay). I figure it's based on an early 1960s set of Evergreen Jubilee seen every Saturday evening on KOMO TV in Seattle. Can anyone name the band members? (Hint, Jack Roberts is the one in the suit.)I think the steel player is Mike Stanton.

Great Pictures Dave

I got to pick with Marty quite a few times at the Seattle Western Swing Society jams. What a great guy he was. I have very fond memories. He was always so great about coming in and out of a song at just the right time. Those YouTube clips are really great. Is that Jimmy Webb on the left side of the picture?

The memorial service today was very touching. What a wonderful and full life. The things he did with his time will last for generations. There were as many freinds he had in Boy Scouts that he worked with as well as musicians at the service.
