Steel as Sound Effects

Post by Bud Angelotti »

Friends,
A few years ago, I was fortunate to get to edit the sound & picture on this video project. We used the pdeal steel as a sound effect, along with other sound effects or "foley", over pre-existing music. I'm still really proud of it, and I think it shows how the steel can be used in unconventional ways. >> http://drdoz.com/snappy/Old100.mpg

Nice stuff Bud. I once got a studio call for what I thought to be a "normal" session, but they sat me in a huge video editing room and had me make whale sounds on my guitar as I was watching a documentary film about whales. It was the most unusual session I had ever been on.

I assume most of the steel is at the beginning, right?
Fascinating use of what the instrument can do.

Someone say whale?
At the end of BENEATH THE 12TH MOON OF FANTASY, I tried to recreate the cry of a whale:

I also triple-tracked all the underscore (no other instruments).
