Notify all of your contacts that your account was hacked.

Change your password to a much stronger one that isn't in the dictionary.steve takacs wrote:Wiz, beside notifying all contacts about the hacking (which I am doing now), what can be done? Don't fall for email phishing scams asking you for your password to reset some feature. All legitimate ISPs and email providers already have that on file.
Scan your computer for keyloggers.

Are you still in China? That is where the hacked emails are coming from. Read the Whois look-up on 123.53.106.152 and you will see the province and city of origin.
A Keylogger is spyware that gets silently installed onto unpatched Windows computers, or by trickery onto Mac and Linux computers. It stays hidden as a background driver and intercepts all key strokes you enter. Keyloggers are coded by the people owning them to watch when you visit particular pages they are interested in, then they begin capturing keystrokes as you type login credentials. These logins are then sent home to the command and control servers maintained by the criminals and used to break into the monitored accounts, be they your bannk, email, web hosting, ftp, PayPal, eBay, etc.
What security programs are you using on your computer? What OS are you using? Know that a Mac user can be tricked into installing malware by social engineering in a Trojan installer. Once you supply the Admin password, you self-infect the computer.

Wiz, what is the difference between Trend Micro & Kaspersky ??
But that's probably not what you were asking. You are asking me to compare two of the cream of the crop security companies and that is hard to do. I use Trend anti virus plus, but have not tried anything from Kaspersky. I read both company's blogs and can state that both are involved in some of the biggest takedowns of cybercriminals and botnets to date.
I think that you should try each one out, one at a time, until the trial periods expire. Install, test until expiration, then uninstall the first one. Reboot, then install the other and run it until it times out. If you find that one uses less resources, or finds more problems, that may be the best one for you. If one bothers you with a lot of notices and questions, it may become annoying. You could go with the quieter brand, or be better informed with the noisier one.
If you would like, I can prepare a page for you to use to download trial versions of each company's main programs. I am an affiliate for Trend Micro and Kaspersky.

Even if you opened the one I got, there was nothing harmful in it. The only link had to be copied and pasted to be useable. The spammer was promoting cars, motorcycles, electronics, et al.Jerry Overstreet wrote:I received one of these emails from Steve's hacked account and opened it without previewing it. Will that cause any problems or is there any other action one should do in a case like this?
