Steel Jam in Maryhill Ontario

Post by Bent Romnes »

As promised, here are a few pics from The Steel Jam in Maryhill "Men of Steel" as it's called. I also recorded a few songs, here's the first one, Panhandle Rag.

Great - thanks for posting, Bent and also for posting the notice of the gig on the forum. I couldn't make it last weekend but will keep an eye out for future events. Maybe you can convince the Western Swing Authority to play a weekend rather than Tuesday for us Toronto folk with day jobs ...

Hi Dave, I think people listen and comment as they have time to do so...There is a plethora of steel to listen to on the forum and I guess it's not possible to get thru it all. Thanks for looking and listening.

Brian you are so right. After I sot interested in steel in my second life (after retirement) I started realizing all the super talent right here in my back yard! As far as Quebec...One of my biggest wishes is to see and hear your own Jean Guy Grenier. Talk about talent! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPUifj2hQBA

Jim, would love to accommodate but every 2nd tuesday is the best they can do...considering the fact that Ed and Shane Guse(fiddle) both tour with George Canyon all over Canada and into the US.
Heck man it's only an hour from Toronto and It starts at 8:30 Pm so you can make it..I would love to see you there. If you do come make sure you let me know(forum email or PM) and I will try to make it as well.

Good job fellows! The Americans are listening. I find that many more people listen/watch the Forum than comment. You can see on the opening page where there are about 25 to 30 registered and about 100 guests. Obviously you have to be signed in to comment. So I think for every comment there are many many more listening and watching. Still, I wish more people joined in the conversation. It would make things move faster and more interesting. Just my opinion!

Hey Bent, you are lucky to be so close to top shelf steel players man I envy you. Doug Johnson is an awomw picker. I'm hoping I'll get to see Pewwe this summer if he comes with George Canyon to Valleyfest 2012.

Yes, Quentin, I feel privileged indeed. for a place that is basically steel-starved, I have the opportunity to be right in the midst of this tight little group of elite pickers. They come visit me now and then, I go to their venues when I can. I feel like I am part of a very unique brotherhood. They are all so nice and down to earth.
When you get to meet Peewee, just walk up and say hi and you'll have an instant new friend. I met Doug Johnson for the first time on Sunday and that feeling was there from the word go. And yes, they are all so very good and very pro. At the same time all 5 of them have their own style. It was easy to hear as they passed the spotlight from one to the other. What a great experience!
As well, four different guitars. The Show Pro sounded great!
