It is sad. Although I can't say I was surprised by it.

In her prime, she was the greatest voice in pop music, IMO. Thank God we still have the recorded evidence of it for the ages.

Whitney was the one! Almost every female singer since has tried to sing like her.. the power, her range, her pitch..and with taste too.. it is tragic.

and it's too easy to say more.

Indeed, some people do die when their time has come; they had nothing more
to say or add, and they knew it. Their productive period was over, it's all downhill from there.

In this company of burn outs are Janis Joplin(heroin overdose), Jimi Hendrix(drug overdose), Jim Morrison(alcohol), Kurt Cobain(drugs, suicide), Michael Jackson(drugs), Elvis Presley(drugs), Michael Hutchence(suicide), Sid Vicious(drugs), Tommy Bolin(drugs), Keith Moon(drug overdose), Amy Winehouse,
Gram Parsons(drug overdose), Del Shannon(suicide).

Ofcourse, there are many who did indeed die before their time:
John Lennon, Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Cliff Burton, Freddie Mercury, Randy Rhoads, Robert Johnson, John Bonham, Bob Marley, Andy Gibb, Patsy Cline, Selena, Bon Scott, Duane Allman, Jim Croce, Marvin Gaye, Sam Cooke, Ronnie Van Zant, Steve & Cassie Gaines,
Bobby Darin, Brian Jones, Berry Oakley, Otis Redding, Cass Elliot, Hank Williams, John Campbell, Karen Carpenter, Eddie Cochran, Brian Jones.

ok..here it comes..my snarky yet honest opinion.
i haven't heard how she died yet but crack smokers choose an uphill battle. her greatest accomplishment to me was making dolly (who i 'do' respect) lots of money.

Comments removed after second thoughts. In retrospect, who am I to judge? It's just sad that Whitney Houston couldn't have been saved, either by herself or those close to her.

" some people just can't stand prosperity ".
until you've been there, you don't really know just how tough prosperity can be
it's always within' the entourage that you're gettin' took
no different than a Thoroughbred
why even they get substance abuse
when they don't run good no more, they get put down
if i recall correctly, George Harrison said something to the avail " if i had to do it again, i would'nt want to be famous "
Rest in Peace Whitney
you sure gave us plenty

She was aware of her own dark side, but she clearly thought she could "manage" it. When everyone around her was telling her "No!" she married a man who told her "yes." You can always quit... next week, right?

She had the early stages of emphysema, on top of everything else...

No one who knows what that crap is about will think ill of me for saying that the way she went, compared to how she probably would've gone otherwise, was probably pretty easy.

I listened to Whitney's music as a kid in the eighties, and her singin' really amazed me! I was a huge fan of her slower songs, like "I Will Always Love You", "Didn't We Almost Have It All", "The Greatest Love Of All", I Have Nothing If I Don't Have You", and "Saving All My Love For You". My favorite fast song of hers was "How Will I Know" and I also loved "I Wanna Dance With Somebody".

Brett, I'm with you. It's tragic for her daughter and family. I hope she had time for the Big Man upstairs.
My prayers are with her family.

Well certainly she was addicted..no doubt, that's a war that many people cannot win even over the course of a lifetime of trying.

I would argue that WH's greatest accomplishment was being recognized around the globe for being one of the finest "ICONIC" vocalists we will ever hear in our lifetime. Her 2nd biggest accomplishment is that singers around the entire world attempted to emulate her, and are still trying...

Singing a Dolly song was only part of WH's journey, as good as it was.

.....and if you would like to hear the National Anthem performed the way that it should be, below is a link to Whitney singing it prior to the 1991 Super Bowl.

I wouldn't want my daughter trying to emulate a drug addict in any type of way.

This could be another Sam Cooke story with a little Keith Whitley singing to Elvis saying, who killed that dog.If Micheal was here he could tell you.It takes many of hands to drive some one to do themself in.Just like a crazy limo drive and who's body guard is his body guard to keep things clear. :whoa: I dropped my finger.Music sure has it's way of getting you killed! No matter how you cut it, it's :( Uncle Leo.J.Eiffert.Jr.once new how all this works doing security/Body Guard service for many big, big, big!

Instead of bashing her we could comment on the fact that fame and money isn't enough to combat addiction. With all her money, talents, and accomplishments she died the way millions of others will before the year is out.

She was a great singer and artist. Her personal life is her's and her families.
