Strange email delivery failures

Post by Richard Sinkler »

Starting last night, I have been bombarded with like 20 email delivery failure notices from hotmail (I do not use Hotmail). None of the addresses are addresses from my address book. Every one has a different mail recipient. They all have a Windows Live friend request from the same person and the requests come in different languages. Below is the text from one of the emails. There is an attachment that I won't open of course.

How can I stop these? I don't think my Yahoo email account was hacked, as the messages come from Hotmail and no one in my address book has received any weird emails from me.

Hotmail hides some of the header details, regarding recipients. Your email account has been forged into the "Reply-To" address and is receiving the bounces form invalid Hotmail accounts.

In spam-land, this is known as a "Joe Job."

There is nothing you can do about this.

I had the same thing a few weeks ago, for about 3 weeks. Off and on. Wiz told me the same thing.

Fortunately whoever was doing it stopped and now it is not a problem.

I cannot say what I feel about scammers, spammers and whatever else lurks out there.

Thanks guys. I will wait to see what happens. It has already seemed to have slowed down or stopped.
