Here's my version of the 1960s surf/rock classic, Apache. Played on a Stringmaster (on 6 strings only), C6 tuning. I used a flatpick on this tune so I could play the "tremolo picking" parts. Thanks for listening and Happy New Year!

Dougie great job..Very smooth and one of the best I've heard on the song..I listened to it three playback times and it has me wondering?..How many times you would have had to play that in the old days as a request..Thats a travel keeper for me..Time for a DB CD..
According to Wikipedia the song was written by Jerry Lordan:
He found real fame as a composer with the instrumental, "Apache". It was originally recorded by Bert Weedon, but Lordan did not like the version. Weedon's label, Top Rank, did not release it immediately. On tour with The Shadows, Lordan demonstrated the tune to bass player Jet Harris, reportedly picking out the tune on a ukelele.
When the rest of the band heard it, they agreed to record it. It was released in July 1960 and hit number one in August, staying at the top for five weeks. The tune was also recorded by the Danish guitarist Jorgen Ingmann, who took it to number two in the Billboard Hot 100. The Shadows' version was voted Top Record of 1960 in the New Musical Express Readers' Poll.
Bert Weedon most famous for his guitar and his tutor 'Play In A Day' was in fact offered "Apache" by Jerry Lordon first before 'The Shadows'. Here is his version, shortly after The Shadows, he recorded after turning it down and was recorded by The Shadows who took this to No. 1 for 6 weeks in 1960
Doug is that you playing Old Cape Cod..I mentioned that to Smiley to record on his upcoming CD..Russ Hicks was thinking of doing it...One of my all time fav songs along with Tony Bennets San Francisco..
Yes, that's me playing Old Cape Cod on youtube. Smiley should record that one because he's originally a Massachusetts guy, like me! He's a great player and he'd do a great job on that song. I'm not sure about that big white beard though...

Thanks, I think the strings are about three months old. The Stringmaster has a very clean, bright, cutting tone so almost any strings sound good on that guitar IMO. Have a happy new year.
What's the secret to opening it?
Nice pic though, looks like the setup I had when I was 10, but my amp was a Pro and my V-pedal was DeArmand. Brings back memories. I still have the amp which I'm hoping to restore one of these days.
