This is really sad. BJ was a very warm, loving person. She was a highly under-rated singer, also. We'll miss you, BJ.

Wikipedia: Billie Jo Spears (born Billie Jean Spears, January 14, 1937 - December 14, 2011, Beaumont, Texas, United States) was an American country music singer. She reached the top-10 of the Country music charts five times between 1969 and 1977, her biggest hit being "Blanket on the Ground", which, in 1975, became her only number one.[1] She is known for her bluesy voice.

GREAT Lady and Voice.

This very sad news for me. Billy Jo and I grew up together in the Beaumont/Port Arthur, Tx. area. We sat for hours many a day in my mother and dad's house, her on guitar and me on piano, just hanging out playing and singing our music. I haven't been in contact with BJ in about a year, but I did know she was having some health problems.
This, again, is a very sad day for me. She is in God's house now and I'll bet there are lot's of her music fan's welcoming her home.
Rest in peace dear BJ, we love you....

The Nashville Tennessean stated reason for passing "Cancer" but that was all.

Wasn't she married to Terry Bethel at one time?

got to work for many great artists over the years but she was not only a great talent but a wonderful lady to work for. RIP I could give many war stories about her personnality, but as Herby has stated, really enjoyed my time with her - Jerry Lee wasn't bad either....

Yes Jack Stoner BJ and I were married for 16 years.
We have been in contact for the last 5 years. I went to Vidor where she was living with her son Kevin.
I only had one full day as I in between gigs, we had a great visit and I'm glad I went as she passed away 5 days later.
She was a fighter and never gave up her will to live.
I told her I wished she would come to St. Louis and sing with me again and she said "you betcha".
BJ I never stopped loving you and I am going to miss the voice that I loved even before we got together.
I would go on and on but I can't.

I got to meet her in St. Louis also and had the pleasure to hear her perform in person. One of my favorites.

Terry, Roy & I are sad to hear the news about BJ. I can still hear her singing "Blanket On The Ground". She was an awesome singer. We will pray for your comfort and the comfort of her family. We sure miss seeing all of you but Roy just can't travel anymore. God's Blessings, Laurie
