New Clip of the Week 12/11/11

Post by Walter Stettner »

Good Morning,

Here's a classic country clip from the 1970s, with lots of great steel work:

Enjoy the music!

Listened to it again...the tone is too bright to be Curly...is it Hal Rugg?

Here I go out on the limb again...it is Hal !! That Loretta Lynn styling is so evident in his signature !

I still recall when I could spot Buddy or Jimmy or Pete and Hal in an instant but that skill has been fading as the years accumulate upon me...

And it is Johnny Russell as a singer and not making folks laugh and smile. He sure could tell a good story !

Regards, Paul

Johnny Russell w/Hal Rugg? plus Charlie McCoy on harmonica.

Johnny Russell always said he was on two diets because he couldn't get enough to eat on one.

(Paul Graupp - I know what you mean - I've been trying to remember Russell's joke about the "Squawberry Shortcake")

Wow, another good discussion about singers and players! :) Yes, the final answer is Johnny Russell singing and Hal Rugg on steel. Good stuff!

...jokin' of course >:-) , I thought that Dallas had written and performed this along with many other hits. Shoulda caught the familiar voice of Johnny Russell. Such a loss. Great entertainer.
