The singer sounds like Narvel Felts or Freddie Hart and the the steel is JayDee-like but I'm not sure it's any of them. Can't wait to find out who it is. Jerry Inman maybe?

What a singer! No idea about the steel player, from the way he sounds, the guitar player must be James Burton.
Fender Kingman, Sierra Crown D-10, Evans Amplifier, Soup Cube.

I've listened to this one over and over and if that's not JayDee I really want to know who it is...

What happened to music like this? The singer, song and steel player are incredible. In the shadow of Wynn Stewart - a great place to be.

Wow, guys, lots of enthusiasm on this one and well deserved. The steel player is not Jay Dee but he is in the HOF, too. The album is quite obscure and was recorded in Gene Breeden's studio in 1980, Gene is also on Lead Guitar.

I can't figure out if Gene Breeden was in Bakersfield or Nashville in 1980. If he was still in Bakersfield it narrows the field considerably. You really got me on this one, Walter.

If it's Nashville - the ISGHOF members working the Nashville studios in 1980 would have been: Hal, Weldon, Pete Drake, Emmons, Jernigan, Russ Hicks, Larry Sasser, Ron Elliot, Bobbe Seymour.

I'm stumped - but that's a good reason to listen to it again.

My new bet is Larry Sasser. I'm trying to set the modern day record for "Clip Of The Week" wrong guesses.

That sounds like Aaron Wilburn that used to work with the Happy Goodman Family singing.

Thanks, Steve. Now I'll be able to sleep tonight.

Doug is an awesome player, to say the least, and a very nice guy. The tone was leading me to guess P/P players, which he was at one time. Do you suppose he used one for this date?

Sorry for the late reply, that's the time difference! Steve is correct, that is Doug Jerniogan playing behind Frank Hurley, a singer I have never heard much about. However, the album is top notch, with Doug all over it. :)

Peter, when I met Doug in Macon with Johnny Paycheck in 1975 he was playing an orange Sho-Bud...the same guitar I saw him playing when I moved to Nashville in 1977...a few years later(1982) I played some gigs on electric guitar with Doug on steel and he had a black Sho-Bud Super Pro...I would think it was one of those two guitars on Walter's clip...but I could be wrong!Hope this helps.

I'll be looking for the Frank Hurley album!

Steve, I heard Doug for the first time around then too. I was in a pick up band on bass backing Ferlin Husky, opening for Johnny Paycheck. In the middle of his set Johnny had Doug play a couple songs, one of his incredibly fast banjo style tunes, and Bonnie Marie (on both necks). He stole the show. He knocked me out at the Phoenix show last Jan. as well. And he's a really nice guy.
