A Forumite James Martin passes away

A good friend of mine and regular Forumite reader James Martin who lived in Watford U.K. passed away on friday from throat Cancer. He was on "Pedals" for over 35 years and was a darn good player. He had his ups and downs with the desease but finally it took him away from us. On our meetings, we used to be very supportive to each other on our medical conditions. Sincere condolences to his family. James R.I.P.

and after hearing his name, saying ;

A sad loss, The first time I met Jim was at John Davis steel meeting. What struck me was his wonderful sound from his steel, it sounded better then any of the other steel there that day, thats no disrespect to the other great players playing that day. He used just a hint of reverb. He came up to our home last year and we spent a lovely day talking steel, he came to our jam sesssion that night and we played double steel sharing the breaks and fills.
Jim will be missed by all the British steel players and those that have met him in the past.

This must be confusing to some...There were two Jim Martins. Both played steel "and" Fiddle. The Jim I refered to, signed in the Forum as JAMES MARTIN....and was from Watford Hertforshire U.K. As far as I know I haven't see the other "Jim" Martin on this Forum. He lives in Braintree Essex U.K.

Thankyou Ron...I had my 12 and 1/2 year check up at the Heart Transplant hospital on Sept 13th...all seems ok at the moment. I've mentioned in full on the "Latest Update" page on my website. March 2012 I'll be 13 years post transplant. I met a guy at the Transplant clinic who is 27 years on his new heart. Meeting people like him although he's a rare case still gives me hope.

I'm saddened to hear this! James (the 'Watford' James) was a friend of mine from my earliest days of my dabbling with PSG (the mid-'70s) and, although we haven't seen each other since I moved to the USA in '98, we've remained correspondants.

He was a very nice man, a good player, and my sympathies go to all his family and friends.

Jim always came to watch me play at Harrow cmc,always interested on how you set the guitar up and amp settings.He looked at my NV112 settings and said try these, it looked a bit whacky, bass -12 mid off shift 800 high and presence only half way on. I tried it and am still using those settings now, best the amp has sounded.So if your listening Jim it's down to you mate the geat tone I have today. RIP my old friend

I knew Jimmy way back in the early 1970's when he was on the road in the UK with Rainbow Country. We have kept in touch ever since. A lovely person and a good solid player. RIP.
