Here's a great tribute by Bob Hempker and his friend Dave. For those not aware of Bob Hempker, he was Loretta Lynn's road player for many many years. I was privileged to see him backing her at the London Palladium U.K. in 1969. Please enjoy this

Wow Mickey, Bob sure is a wonderfully smoother player -- and I think he certainly captures that "hughey land" tone ! I would love to hear him doing some of Hal's stuff with Loretta Lynn .... that would be a treat for sure !
Who does Bob play with these days ??
14'Zumsteel Hybrid D10 9+9
08'Zumsteel Hybrid D10 9+9
94' Franklin Stereo D10 9+8
Telonics, Peterson, Steelers Choice, Tone-X, Benado, Lexicon, Red Dirt Cases.

It might also be mentioned that David Thornhill, was Loretta's lead guitar player for many years, if my old age memory serves me right.
And yes, Bob Hempker is about the closest to John's playing you'll ever hear. Smooth as silk and with a great tone and tons of feeling as well.
Two most excellent musicians in every respect of the word.
