A BYRD HAS FLOWN In Remberance Jerry Byrd

Post by Roy Thomson »

It will be six years tomorrow Apr 11th since the
passing of the Master Of Touch and Tone.

He was the man that influenced my playing the most
throughout my early days of learning Steel Guitar
and he continues to do so.

This is the second of two original instrumentals
I composed to pay tribute to Jerry.Lets stop for
a moment to remember the Master who inspired so
many Steel Guitarists. RIP Jerry

Oh man, you have such a warm touch ! What is so amazing about your beautiful steel work is the fact
you are probably playing it on a 6 string steel....
just gorgeous Roy ! Your composition is lovely... :) I'm sure Jerry is smiling.

Thanks so much George and it is nice to hear from you
again!
Actually, that is an 8 string tuning I am using there
E6/9 High to Low: E--C#--B--G#--F#--E--B--E. It's very "strummy" so to speak as you can hear in the intro. Using the slant technique the tuning lends itself well to producing a "pedal feel" without
pedals. I remember reading where Jerry said to Buddy Emmoms on one occasion long ago.."Why Pedals".
In my Mp3 other than the intro it is all 6 string.
All the best to you and yours. :)

Hi ROY...I use the same tuning except I reverse the F# and E ... E C# B G# E F# B E. Kinda neat sound.
(I sometimes tune the lo B to a D for a 7th .. hence 13th) :)
