Bill one of my all time favorite songs Jeff did was City of New Orleans. So if you run across that one I would love to hear it again.

Jeff played Amazing grace one time in watertown all by his self. I don't know if he did this any place else. But it was the best version I had every heard. I would love to see it if you have it on video.

Glad you like this pretty unique video.
Fran has given me permission to post video's. I have just been lax in doing so.

Most of the time, Jeff had other steelers set up with him at the shows. Unfortunately, I have been unable to get permission from some of them to post those videos.

I will keep digging for more.

I'm finally a member at this site, and want to take this opportunity to thank you Bill for ALL the wonderful videos you have posted here over the past years. I have downloaded every video you have uploaded to Youtube and these remain my bible / learning tools / inspiration PSG videos. Many of the players you have filmed and shared, I never had a chance to see play live or on TV.

You would think that a video as precious as the Jeff Newman video would have garnered many more thank you postings than have appeared in this video. I guess people get blasé. This is truly terrific playing. I thank you for the posting and please continue to upload. They are appreciated

Jeff was Amazing and had grace. I miss him and enjoyed watching him play, he loved it.
I seem to remeber him doing that in Texas about the same year.

Can you tell me something about this tune? I was there in 95, but I don't remember this one.

Man, I miss Jeff Newman so much. He is one of my all time favorite steel guitar people. I'm partial, of course having attended his Nashville classes and other seminars, but I'm still impressed with his playing, range of style and musicianship after all these years.

I know the anniversary of his passing [Apr. 7] slipped by without comment here, but I know we haven't forgotten him and his enormous contribution to steel guitar not the least of which is his fabulous playing.

He was one classy guy who surrounded himself with others of the same description including his lovely wife Fran.

Thanks Bill and Fran for sharing this bit of steel guitar history.

City Of New Orleans

Post by Alan Cook »

Jeff was great player and teacher. Bob here my version of City of New Orleans not as good as Jeff's I know but played to his tab and backing track. I have a few of Jeff woodsheds on my you tube site I intend to do them all eventually. Everyone has a hidden lesson, this one covers the use of open strings and harmonics.
