Lost sound

Had BIAB 2009 installed & worked fine.. I had to uninstall it, & then re-installed it.. did the same settings as before on the computer but have no sound, I can see the keys moving.. So I thought maybe something in the installation, because I got a message sorry but BIAB needs to close do you want to send an error reort to Microsoft. So I uninstalled BIAB, & reinstalled it again.. Worked OK before, Almost like it's muted somewhere. Other programs work fine..
Also tried a factory reset..

Check that you are playing ALL MIDI tracks. Since you are seeing the "keys" moving you are getting a MIDI signal.

Check your AUDIO settings. What driver is set?

Check to see if you have the VST/DXi Synth Setting.

The plot thickens.. when I click on the keyboard I hear sounds. but it doesn't matter, if I click on bass, drums or piano. when I click in the middle of the keyboard I hear Piano..

OK, well for some reason several of your Option settings have changed from the ones you had.

From the main menue (the one at the top) choose OPT and from there choose MIDI Options. Check that all the correct settings are checked on.

Then click on the "Channels" Button at the lower right and varify that the correct channells are assigned to the correct instruments (Patch).

In the lower left of this window is a button called GM Patches. The number assigned will determine what sound (instrument) you hear on each channel.

Hope that is clear - to recap: a Patch is assigned to a channel and the channel is assigned to a track which in BIAB is call one of the instruments on the main Chord screen. i.e. While BIAB my say GUITAR you can assign any sound (Patch)to the Guitar Channel and that will be the sound you hear for that track.


What do you hear at the left or right of the piano. Is this a MIDI piano you are playing or the on screen software piano that BIAB provides?

If this is a keyboard attached through MIDI chords then most likely the hardware piano has what is called "Zones" which send different MIDI messages for different key zones. i.e. Bass on the lower keys, piano in the middle keys and guitar above the piano zone.

OK - If you go back to the window that shows the Channel, Patch assignments (like above) you will see that the Patch (instrument) assigned to the Soloist Channel 8 is "0". On your sound card this will be a piano. If you want to hear a different instrument when you play the BIAB piano you must change the patch number to match in sound you want.

The BIAB piano will always ONLY play on the channel (in this case 8 ) that is assigned to "Soloist".

What do you hear when you just play a BIAB song? Is it now working as it should? Do you hear all the instruemts that are active? Can you mute an instrument and then re-activate it?

By the way - what was the issue that caused the first re-install to be necessary?

thanks Bo.. I have 2 hard drives in my desktop computer. My C drive is rather full, so I thought I'd uninstall BIAB off C drive & install it on my F drive where I have much more room. I also took some folders off my desktop, & put them into my J drive, (my external 1 tb hard drive)... that cleared about 18 gigs off my C drive.. so then I reinstalled BIAB on my C drive, everything was fine but no sound..
So last nite just for the heck of it I did a System Restore to Monday, but still didn't work, so I did a System Restore to Tuesday, the day I moved some stuff off my desktop to my J ,(external drive), & begone & begorra everything is working. I mut have moved something BIAB needed, yet I didn't move any BIAB files.

Why can't I have BIAB installed on my J drive & work it from there?? to save space on my C drive?

Well IF you put EVERYTHING on the J drive and it is a read/write drive it will work. You can buy BIAB preinstalled on a USB type drive and run it from that also so there is no reason that your drive won't work.

However, be sure that your Options\Preferences under Real Track Saves these files to the {your drive]BB\RealTracks folder . . .. or like I do . . .. Create a specilal RealTrack folder on on a different disk and under the Options/Preferences\Real Tranks check the box that says "Use a Customm Folder for Real Tracks" and point this option to the drive that you created the new folder.

The audio files are the ones in BIAB that eat up space. If you simply put all of those on a separate disk you will be able to free up a LOT of space.
