Here's the announcement that launched the Steel Guitar Forum back in 1996:

http://groups.google.com/group/alt.guitar.lap-pedal

Thanks to C# at http://steelguitarmadness.com for finding this historical tidbit. 8)

Messages in the Steel Guitar Forum will last much longer than newsgroup messages, so we won't have to keep replying to the same questions over and over.
Guess the first part wasn't necessarily true, and the second part has never been resolved!

That was certainly a spirited exchange! Paul and I had different views of AOL's quality of service, and I got all riled up about it. Hopefully I've mellowed a bit since then. ;-)

It's too bad that the AOL steel forum can't be recovered. There was a lot of good discussion in that one.

Well, look where AOL is today - merged with Netscape and buried under Google, Yahoo, etc. I've got 829 messages in my AIM inbox, all spam.
