Thanks Roger for posting that. I am a big Hank Thompson fan and I love that C6 tuning, I don't know if that was Chalker doing the steel there or not but in my book Curly Chalker was the one that really made Hank Thompson's band sound so fantastic.
Other than Spade Cooley, Hank Thompson during the 50's and 60's had IMHO the best Fiddles in Western Swing. Spade used mostly classical trained Violinists playing some very complex arrangements. But. for good ol' Dance Hall and County Fair Western Swing it was hard to beat H.T.
The "King of Western Swing" was first given to Spade Cooley around 1944 by Dance Hall promoter Foreman Phillips. Later on it was also used by Bob Wills kand Hank Thompson.
