I got to meet Marty when I was bout 11=12 yrs old at Sarge's club down by the river in Phoenix, AZ.I was just a fledgling guitar learner then.Marty wasn't actually playin at Sarge's then but he usually stopped by when he was in town, my mom was bartending at Sarge's and called me at home and I ran like 5 blocks from our apt. to the club to meet him as I was raised on his music along with all the "hip" country in them days lol. All I can tell bout his psg player is he's usin a Sho-Bud with the raised design plastic fretboard and appear to be the wing style tuning head,,,,somebody put a date on this ok?

Katsuo "Katz" Kobayashi on steel, mid-80's. My band opened for MR a couple times back in them days. Katz passed away a few years ago, after moving to FL as I recall.

Herb didn't you play with BW (Buckwheat) Stevenson back around the mid 70S ?

Not to hi-jack this thread, but yes, I played with BW in 1973, and recorded the original "My Maria" album with him, among others.. I pulled out my day book from 1973 and reading the gigs brought back some fine memories.

It seems that for 2/3 of the year I worked primarily with BW Stevenson, but also did a bunch of gigs with Murphey, Jerry Jeff Walker, Ray Hubbard, Mason Williams, Doug Kershaw, and others...

I Thought so. I went to Austin from Lubbock back then with a bass player named Tom Jones, I was hopin to audition for BW on pedal but he had already hired You buddy

That steel player is Bill Johnson.
Not sure, but I believe Bill had the longest TENURE with Marty.

That's Bill Johnson on the older clip, playing his '65 Emmons wraparound.

That guitar was owned and played by me for a few years, and it's now in the loving hands of Bobby Flores, most probably never to leave.

Bill J. was the composer of the hit "A Wound Time Can't Erase."
