Family Loses Loved One To ALS

Post by Paul King »

This week a lady I have know for over 30 years went on to meet and be with the Good Lord after a battle with ALS which is known as Lou Gehrig's disease. It is odd that her father passed away 21 years ago this month with the same disease. She was 48 years of age which is not old at all in todays society. She leaves behind a husband of 27 years, a son and a daughter, her mother, two sisters, her mother-in-law and many other inlaws, cousins and friends as well. Her husband just lost his father two months ago which makes this loss even worse. This family needs the Lord to help them for sure. I ask all who read this to say a prayer for these families. I am sure it would be greatly appreciated.

ALS is a dreaded disease. Ray a friend of mine passed away last Thursday morning of ALS also. Lets say a prayer for Ray, your friend and both of their friends and families.

Lets hope a cure is found soon.

Paul, when I first started reading your note, I thought for sure you were talking about our dear friend Jane Cozad. Jane was a member of our church here in McAllen. We lost her to ALS a few months ago. She was 49. It was less than a year from the time of diagnosis to her death. It was quite swift. Others I have known have lived for years with this terrible disease.

Jane also left behind a loving husband, a son, and a daughter.

Man, where is all this ALS coming from? My business partner was just diagnosed as well... My condolences to you folks. It's a very tough disease.

I feel this disease is the opposite to Alzheimer's Disease, which my Mom has.

With Alzheimer's Disease, you have a healthy body with a brain that slowly ceases to function. With ALS, you have a healthy brain with a body that slowly ceases to function. With ALS, you are aware of everything going on with you and around you, right up to the end. How horrible.

I commented that this young lady has lost her father with ALS 21 years ago this month. He was diagnosed with ALS and passed away nine months later which is very quick. I have known others related, even though they were inlaws that died with ALS. It is a disease that no cure has been found for and they do not know what causes it. All of these families suffer while watching their loved ones slowly drift away.
